The Times Opinion department welcomes a new leader.

Hello — as I write this, The Times’s Opinion department is coming together to reorganize following the resignation of James Bennet, the former editorial page editor and host of this newsletter. James brought me to The Times three years ago from the Boston Globe, something I will always be grateful to him for. And I want to thank him for his dedication to The Times and his journalistic leadership of the department. |
The mission of this newsletter will remain the same as we reflect on how best to move forward. It will continue to arrive in your inbox each weekday morning, delivering the full Opinion report, along with a closer look at the day’s ideas provided by senior editors from across the Opinion team. |
Today, as our country faces perhaps its greatest set of challenges in generations, we will continue to tirelessly share voices that offer our readers perspective and context. That includes writers like Michelle Alexander, whose call to action provides concrete steps for how to move beyond both our “racial history and our racial present.” Michelle urges us to do more than educate ourselves on the cycles of oppression and resistance, to do more than be good people. She pushes us to reimagine what justice in the face of decades of failed change could look like, and to consider the true effort of making that a reality. |
I hope you continue to read this newsletter as we work to offer a range of perspectives to help you form your own views on the issues shaping our world. |
